BACKGROUND

Why did I build this product?

  • I wanted to validate a problem I faced while using several financial trackers.

  • Aimed to design a product that would help users who were facing the same issues.

  • To expand my experience beyond UI/UX design into product management and research.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Several financial tracking frustrations

  • When I used spreadsheets as my platform, so I needed extra time to customize the data to fit my specific needs.

  • I haven’t yet found a platform that can accommodate both tracking and budget control quickly.

  • I often forgot to record transactions and felt overwhelmed when my spending exceeded the planned budget

To validate these problems and gather more data from other users, I continued to the next step by conducting research  🚀

RESEARCH PLANNING

Research planning is crucial because it provides a roadmap for our research

Defining the objectives

Objectives were determined to ensure that the researched information would be more effective and not expand into irrelevant areas. Several objectives I set included:

  • Understanding user behavior and needs regarding financial tracker platforms.

  • Identifying UI/UX patterns used by competitors.

  • Discovering usability issues and improvement opportunities.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

The insights discovered from an analysis of our competitors

IDEATION-1

MVP Prioritization

Here I use the MoSCoW framework to prioritize design features.

IDEATION-2

UX Sitemap

A UX sitemap (or information architecture diagram) visually defines content relationships and simplifies design task breakdown.

IDEATION-4

Wireframe

I created several wireframes as the foundation for the layout before transitioning into UI design.

USER FEEDBACK

Then, I conducted an informal design review with several peers to validate my design solution

IMPROVEMENT

Fixing the gaps to better meet user needs

After that, I proceeded to refine the design. I made some improvements not only from user feedback but also from deeper UI/UX insights that I discovered along the way. Since I want this MVP to work as a progressive web app, I also created the mobile version. In short, I refined the layout, features, and UX writing.

Sign up & Onboarding

I refined the sign-up flow by adjusting the data we actually need for the MVP stage. For onboarding, I made the steps more straightforward and easier to understand, especially for first-time users.

CLOSING

Thank you for visiting

That’s a wrap for my project! I would love to turn this concept into a real and scalable product someday. If you have any thoughts or feedback, feel free to discuss or leave a comment. Thank you!
